Sports Premium

Sport at St. Edward's
In P.E, the children at St Edward’s develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities and are physically active for sustained periods of time.  They also have many opportunities to engage in competitive sports and activities and lead healthy, active lives.  At St. Edward's, we ensure that our pupils become physically confident in a way that supports their health and fitness.  The children also learn and live by the Olympic and Para-Olympic values such as respect, fairness, courage and determination whilst they engage in a range of sporting activities.

Sports Premium:

Sports Premium Funding is funding given by the Government (calculated on the number of pupils of school age 5-11 that you have on roll at the October census) that is ring fenced for the provision of PE and Sport.
The aim of Sports Premium Funding is to: 1) Improve the quality of PE teaching through CPD for staff so that all pupils improve their health, skills and physical literacy, and access a broader range of sports. 2) Increase participation levels in competitive sport and healthy activity. 3) Increase the quality of initial teacher training in the teaching of PE/Sport. 4) Ensure that schools understand and value the benefits of high quality PE and Sport, including as a tool for whole school improvement.

Sports Premium Funding 2021-22:

In the budget of April 2021, St. Edward’s received £17,410 of Sports Premium Funding. £9000 of Sports Premium Funding was also brought forward from the previous year, unspent due to Covid and lockdowns. This carry forward has been put aside as it may be needed to pay for
or contribute to the re-siting of the playground once we are extended. A playground is needed in order to provide a wide range of good quality sports in PE.

We spent £7199.95 (41%) on Trim Trails for active playtimes and the development of gross motor skills, £2375.30 (14%) on new sports equipment and £120 (1%)  on membership of the Leeds Schools Sport Association.

We  also spent £3135 (18%) on hiring a pool and swimming coach for Class 3 or Class 4 to swim all year round. (The school paid an additional £2150 on transport to send them swimming.)

In the school year, 2021-22, 100% of our C4 pupils and 89% of Y3 met the required standard for the end of KS2 for swimming unaided (they can swim competently using a range of strokes over at least 25 metres).
100% of these pupils passed their safe rescue course. (Pupils who cannot swim the required standard continue to swim in Y4.)

The remaining £4580 (26%) is also being carried forward towards the cost of a new playground (giving a total of £13580 towards this).

During the school year 2021-22 we took part in cross-country, football competitions, skipping, athletics and a Let's Run for Fun with competitive races. Our Y3/4 and our Y5/6 football teams came second in the High School cluster football tournament  and our
football A team reached the local Gala final. (Competitions in: tennis, gymnastics, rugby, cricket and rounders were all cancelled  by the Sports Partnership.)

During 2021-22, 103 children represented the school in sports competitions: this was 63% of the total pupils and 92% of all KS2 pupils. 100% of Y6 represented us during the year as did 100% of Y2 (there are no outside competitions for YF or Y1).

100% of our Y6 pupils can swim proficiently over a distance of 25 metres and they can all perform safe rescue in the water.

The PE resources bought and the swimming that have been paid for have led to sustainable improvements in PE delivery/attainment.

Sports Premium Funding 2022-23
