Sports Premium

Sport at St. Edward's
In P.E, the children at St Edward’s develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities and are physically active for sustained periods of time.  They also have many opportunities to engage in competitive sports and activities and lead healthy, active lives.  At St. Edward's, we ensure that our pupils become physically confident in a way that supports their health and fitness.  The children also learn and live by the Olympic and Para-Olympic values such as respect, fairness, courage and determination whilst they engage in a range of sporting activities.

Sports Premium:

Sports Premium Funding is funding given by the Government (calculated on the number of pupils of school age 5-11 that you have on roll at the October census) that is ring fenced for the provision of PE and Sport.
The aim of Sports Premium Funding is to: 1) Improve the quality of PE teaching through CPD for staff so that all pupils improve their health, skills and physical literacy, and access a broader range of sports. 2) Increase participation levels in competitive sport and healthy activity. 3) Increase the quality of initial teacher training in the teaching of PE/Sport. 4) Ensure that schools understand and value the benefits of high quality PE and Sport, including as a tool for whole school improvement.

Sports Premium Funding 2018-19:

In the budget of April 2018, St. Edward’s received £7200 of Sports Premium Funding, with a further £10,115 being received in November 2018; this equals total funding of £17,315.

We spent £1000 (6%) on the Leeds Primary School Offer, which provides training for staff, competitions for pupils in a range of sports, skills workshops, curriculum resources and membership of both the Youth Sports Trust and the Leeds Schools Sport Association.

We spent £3600 (21%) on hiring a pool and swimming coach for Class 3 to swim all year round. (The school paid an additional £2150 on transport to send them swimming.)

In the school year, 2-18-19, 100% of our Y3 pupils met the required standard for the end of KS2 for swimming unaided (they can swim competently using a range of strokes over at least 25 metres).
100% of these pupils passed their safe rescue course.

We spent £4084 (24%) of the money on the sports partnership with Boston Spa, which provides specialist coaches for a variety of sports. Of the remaining money, £1000 (6%) was spent on sports equipment for active playtimes, £476 (3%) was spent on repairing sports equipment
and around £7000 (40%) was spent on PE resources and coaches to sporting competitions during the year.

During the school year 2018-19 we took part in cross-country, football competitions, tennis tournaments, gymnastics, skipping, rugby, cricket competitions and netball tournaments. Our Y3/4 and our Y5 tennis teams won the local cluster tournament and qualified for the Leeds East finals. Our football A team reached the Gala final and we won the St John Fisher Primary football tournament.

During 2018-19, 82 children represented the school in sports competitions; this was 52% of the total pupils and 70% of all KS2 pupils. This is down on the previous year due to several competitions taking part in our holidays as we went with North Yorkshire dates instead of Leeds.

100% of our Y6 pupils can swim proficiently over a distance of 25 metres and they can all perform safe rescue in the water.

The CPD provided by sports coaches and the PE resources bought have led to sustainable improvements in PE delivery.

Sports Premium Funding 2019-20

In the budget of April 2019, St. Edward's received £17,340 of Sports Premium Funding.

We spent £3614 (21%) on hiring a pool and a swimming coach for Class 3 to swim all year round. (The school paid an additional £3052 on transport to send them swimming.)

We spent £5166 (30%) of the money on the sports partnership with Boston Spa, which provides specialist coaches for a variety of sports. Some of the remaining money will be spent on PE resources and coaches to sporting competitions (unknown as yet).

During the school year 2019-20 (up to January 2020) we have taken part in cross-country and football competitions and skipping workshops in preparation for a festival and competition.

During the school year 2019-20 (up to January 2020) so far 60 pupils have represented the school in sporting competitions (all form KS2).

100% of our Y6 pupils can swim proficiently over a distance of 25 metres and they can all perform safe rescue in the water.

The CPD provided by sports coaches has led to sustainable improvements in PE delivery.
